A Twilight update, what I’m reading, and news about my next book!

June 13, 2010

Hello all!

I have been remiss in updating you about my comings and goings in quite some time.  I have no good excuse except that cakes seem to have taken over my life!  Seriously.  In the past two weeks alone, we have made seven cakes!  It has been insane but great at the same time.  Check out our cake blog at touchofclasscakes.wordpress.com to see some of our latest creations!

The only time I pick up a book lately is for my book club, which is a sad testament to just how busy I have been!  Lucky for me, the women in my book group pick a good read every time.  Our last book was “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Swedish author Stieg Larsson…and I loved it!!!  This book has become an international sensation, published posthumously when the author suddenly died of a massive heart attack at the age of 50 after signing a contract to publish three manuscripts.  It was only when I picked up this book for my book group did I discover that it was a part of a trilogy, and once I read the first (Tattoo), I had to read the others.  My timing was impeccable because the second installment, “The Girl Who Played With Fire” was already out in paperback and the third and last book was due out in two short weeks!

I devoured the first two books, and am halfway through the third, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest”.  They are all a fabulous read:  fast-paced, intriguing, and well-written.  Some of my book club friends complained that the first 100 pages of book one were a little slow, but stick it out, because it’s well worth it.  “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is also a movie that is out now in the select theaters.  It was just as good as the book, which is rare.  The second book is also planned as a movie, with filming beginning in October.  I can’t wait to see it!  Be sure to pick up your copies on Amazon – you won’t regret it!

I haven’t finished the third book because I took a small break to speed-read the latest Stephenie Meyer offering, “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner”, which hit bookstores on June 4th.  I was really excited to finally get a new addition to the “Twilight” saga and just in time for the theatrical release of “Eclipse“.  “Bree Tanner” was a good quick read and really filled in the gaps about what was going on in Seattle while the Cullens were busy protecting Bella in Forks in “Eclipse”.  Parts of Bree’s story are featured in the upcoming movie, so if you haven’t gotten your copy, order one from Amazon today, although you can also read it on Meyer’s website for free – but only until July 5th, so hurry!

Finally, I have good news:  despite all the cakes I have made, the flurry of busyness at the end of the school year, and the approach of summer camp (yep, I’m a camp counselor too…I know, I know…I have not idea how I do it all either!), I have begun writing again!  Yay!

I was inspired to do so by my colleagues at work who all recently discovered that I had self-published two books and was working on two more.  I had indefinitely put “The Art of Love” (the third installment in my Fabulous Four series) and “Hidden” (my first venture in YA) on hold because I have been too busy to work on them.  However, my colleagues loved “Second Chances” and “When We Meet Again” and are hounding me for more, so I am working to meet their demands.  I am only about sixty pages in, but am already lost in the world of Julia and her love interest, Ben.  Below is a working synopsis of their story that I hope you will enjoy.  If I can keep the momentum going, I might be ready to publish “The Art of Love” in the early fall.  I know Lori, Diane, and my other work friends are anxious to read it, but I don’t want to rush the creative process.  Plus, I know Abby has another book for me to edit soon, so that may very well delay the process, too!

Check back in a few weeks for a sneak peek of Chapter One.  Until then…

Happy reading!

“The Art of Love”, Book Three of the Fabulous Four series by Christina Corlett

Julia Adamson has it all:  great friends, artistic talent, and a soon-to-open shop in New Hope, Pennsylvania.  The only thing missing in her life is someone with whom to share her joys, but her dating life is a mess, an endless parade of loser after loser.  Will she ever find Mr. Right?

Enter Ben Hallifax, police lieutenant and father to an adorable young girl named Kaitie.  Ben is the complete opposite of any man Julia has ever dated, including Reed Davis, whom she met shortly after arriving in New Hope.  Reed is busy trying to woo her while Ben only succeeds at ruffling her feathers.

Julia thinks Ben is rude and obnoxious and he finds her bossy and a little too trusting, but they soon find themselves attracted to one another despite it all.  Every time they meet, sparks fly as they butt heads, which only serves to fan the flames of their attraction.  And when they’re thrown together during a police investigation of some stolen art, things really get heated.  Can the two of them settle their differences so they can be more than enemies?

Find out in “The Art of Love”, Book Three in the Fabulous Four series by Christina Corlett, coming soon to Amazon and Kindle.
